Course objectives
The aim of the lectures and seminars is to outline the issue of social history in central European area in the Middle Ages and the early modern period. In the course students will be acquainted with social history as a scientific discipline, main research directions of this discipline, methodological approaches, and research possibilities. Introduction of main topics of social history in the above mentioned epochs in the Czech lands will be emphasized. Individual social environments, social structures and their changes will be characterized. Attention will also be paid to demographic development of population until the start of the so called demographic revolution.
Syllabus (in Czech)
  • 1. Úvod do problematiky sociálních dějin, geneze oboru, seznámení se základní literaturou a prameny k problematice.
    2. Hlavní směry a metodologické postupy v sociálních dějinách.
    3. Demografický vývoj v období středověku a raného novověku, proměny populace, středověké a raně novověké kolonizace.
    4. Charakteristika tradiční společnosti, společenské struktury ve středověku a raném novověku, proměny sociálních struktur.
    5. Charakteristika šlechtického prostředí.
    6. Sociální obraz venkovského obyvatelstva, město a jeho obyvatelstvo ve střední Evropě
    7. Labe jako linie sociálních struktur v Evropě, vrchnost a poddaný na přelomu středověku a raného novověku
    8. Fungování šlechtického velkostatku.
    9. Stát, vrchnost a poddaný v 17. - 18. století.
    10. Ekonomické a sociální teorie v raném novověku.
    11. Rozpad tradičních struktur, nástup moderní společnosti.
    12. Závěr.
