Course objectives
During the course students have to master a body of knowledge in the field of library services. The topics are typologies of information services in relation to the information needs of users, as well as evaluation of the effectiveness of information services. Attention is devoted to applying the principles of public relations in libraries and information services, new trends are mentioned - Information Commons and mobile services. The seminar follows contents of the lecture.

    1. Library information services and their social context. Measuring, categories and typology.
    2. Information need. User profilation, categorization and differentiation of services.
    3. Phases and methods of survey. Information needs research.
    4. VISK Ministry of Culture Program for libraries.
    5. New trends in services, Information Commons and e-services.
    6. Public relations and information services.
    7. Models of distribution of information and information retrieval.
