Course objectives
Students will acquire basic knowledge about the effects of environmental and climatological parameters, lights and air pollutants on collection objects and methods of protection of collections.
Syllabus
  • 1. Sustainable community and sustainable museum.
    2. Causes damage to collections.
    3. The influence of environmental and climatological parameters on museum collections.
    4. Measurement climatological parameters.
    5. Influence of light on collections.
    6. Measurement of characteristics of light.
    7. Characteristics of the materials of museum collection.
    8. Types of corrosion. Consequences of physico-chemical and biological damage to collection. 9. The effect of air pollutants on the corrosion of materials. External and internal pollutants.
    10. Atmospheric corrosion. Internal atmosphere, rural atmosphere, urban environment and industrial atmosphere.
    11. Measurement and evaluation of the impact of air pollutants on the corrosion of materials of collection.
    12. Protection of collections and depository mode. Protection strategy of collections against environmental influences.
