Course objectives
The aim of the seminar is to acquaint students with comprehensive issues of conservation and restoration of cultural heritage objects of selected organic materials. It is another step in laboratory practice and the extent of self-employment in the laboratory reflects the growing level of knowledge of students. Students can verify their theoretical knowledge seminar exercises in the Centre of restoration and conservation UHV. Attention will be given to textiles, selected animal materials (leather, parchment, horn, ivory, bone, eggshells) products from non-traditional materials (wicker, straw, husks, etc.) and synthetics materials. Students will be familiar with modern interventions involving research, preventive conservation, remedial conservation, restoration and documentation. Special lessons will focus on the principles of making copies of objects, the counterfeiting of artefacts, taxidermy preservation of nature and natural history collections. In two hours, will also be presented to specific protection of museum collections of different materials affected by water. The thesis also mentions the area of occupational safety and familiarization with the potential risks for staff and collections. The main task of the seminar will be writing a seminar paper - namely, developing a concept complex intervention on a given object. Each student will have to carry out survey, proposal intervention, conservation, storing and documentation. Listeners must continuously during the semester also process subtasks that they will be entered in the laboratory exercises. Above the results of seminar papers will be shared discussion moderated by the teacher.
