Course objectives

Collections are not only the domain of museums, libraries or private collectors, but we can also find them in fields where we would not expect them at first glance. Our focus will be on collecting activities in its most diverse forms, and collectors who have created significant collections or created other scientific or cultural values with the help of collections and have contributed to the knowledge of the theory of collecting activities. Topics we will deal with are various forms of collecting, the fate of collections and significant acquisitions of museums, libraries or other institutions, supraregional collections of individual collectors and their importance for society, as well as the fate of collections in times of crisis.
