Course objectives
The course provides a basic orientation in the field of written cultural heritage in terms of a specific group of movable tangible cultural heritage. Materials, otherwise perceived primarily as sources of historical research of diplomatic and codicological character, and thus the subject of study of auxiliary historical sciences, are perceived in accordance with international practice as an integral part of national and world cultural heritage. UNESCO). The possible internal stratification of this specific group of cultural heritage, methods of its research, institutional arrangements are outlined. Emphasis is placed on manuscript materials, printed artifacts will not be left out either. Example presentations will focus on the most important files and individuals of Czech, European and world provenance of diplomatic and codicological character, on literary texts, papyri, sources with a share of text, etc. The potential of the use of written cultural heritage in the international context (exhibitions, Expo) and in regional practice (cultural, social and leisure activities, education of cultural tourism) is emphasized.
Learning outcomes
By completing the course, the student will gain a basic orientation in the field of written cultural heritage in terms of a specific group of movable tangible cultural heritage. They will learn the internal stratification of this specific group of cultural heritage, methods of its research, institutional arrangements. The student will get acquainted with manuscript materials and printed artifacts (example presentations will focus on the most important files and individuals of Czech, European and world provenance of diplomatic and codicological character, literary texts, papyri, sources with a share of text, etc.).

  • 1. Terminology, methodology, sources, literature, information sources.
  • 2. - 3. Possibilities of stratification of written cultural heritage.
  • 4. Cultural heritage of related character / with the share of written elements (cartographic, iconographic, etc.), printed sources.
  • 5. Institutional care of documents, their collection, research, presentation.
  • 6. National cultural monuments of written character.
  • 7. - 8. Cultural monuments and other written cultural heritage in domestic institutions - selective presentation.
  • 9. Significant bohemia of a written nature in foreign institutions.
  • 10. Selected examples of written cultural heritage of foreign provenance.
  • 11. - 13. Possibilities of presentation and animation of written cultural heritage (examples from domestic and foreign practice).

Teaching methods
