Resolve to read the texts written in Old and Middle Czech, elementary knowledge of literary theory and criticism.

Course objectives
The seminar develops and deepens the understanding of the history of old Czech literature through interpretation of selected literary texts.
Learning outcomes
The students will obtain:
- better understanding of the literary works written in Old and Middle Czech.
The students will also gain:
- specific skills needed for close reading of Old Czech works.

  • Close reading of the Old Czech literary works:
  • The Chronicle of Dalimil.
  • Obscene poetry.
  • Tristan and Iseult.
  • Cesta z Čech do Jeruzaléma a Egypta Martina Kabátníka z Litomyšle.
  • The Chronicle of Václav Hájek of Libočany.
