- Course objectives
- The aim of the seminar is to acquaint students with managerial and production work in the practice of cultural institutions. Students will be prepared to work as a producer of an artistic organization (festival) as a person responsible for the conceptual preparation of content and program composition with an emphasis on public relations, media and fundraising. The course will include a visit to selected theater institutions and a meeting with their senior staff (managers, production managers, secretaries, etc.).
- Syllabus
- 1. Introduction to the issues of the seminar. The current situation of the theater. Theater network in the Czech Republic.
- 2. Basics of theatrical activity. Vision and goals of the theater. The staging team and its activities before rehearsals begin. Rehearsal period, premiere and evaluation of the production.
- 3. Typology of theater. Statutory theater, private theater, theater as a non-profit organization. Single-ensemble and multi-ensemble theater.
- 4. Multi-ensemble theater in practice. Visit to the theater (Národní divadlo moravskoslezské or Silesian Theater Opava). Debate with theater executives.
- 5. Preparation of a theatrical production, composition of the firman. When is subscription important? Why commissioned performances? And what are tours for? Participation in prestigious theater festivals.
- 6. Budget, grant management, grants and fundraising. How and where to apply for money and be successful. Twenty rules of successful fundraising.
- 7. Theater as a non-profit organization. A meeting with the managers of the Petr Bezruč Theatre, the multi-genre center Cooltour, Stará aréna.
- 8. One troupe theater in practice. A visit to the Arena Chamber Stage. Debate with theater management.
- 9. Standing room only. How to have a theater full of satisfied viewers? Knowledge of the environment and competition. The viewer as a customer. Typology of customers. Getting the viewer. Influences on audience decision-making. Factors influencing audience behavior.
- 10. Private theater "on the area"? Visit to the Mír Theater and meeting with the theater management. 11. Theater festival. Assembling the production team. Marketing strategy. Public relations.
- 12. Meeting with the managers and producers of the OST-RA-VAR and Spectaculo Interesse festivals.
- 13. Meeting with the managers and producers of the Dream Factory Ostrava and Shakespeare Festival festivals.
