- Course objectives
- The aim of the course is to familiarize students theoretically and practically with artistic presentation as an important and distinctive artistic activity that comprehensively develops the speaking skills of the speaker / to familiarize students theoretically and practically with the issue of preparing and implementing public speeches. We will look for ways to natural and fulfilled communication, which must be mastered not only by future actors, performers, but also speakers, teachers, workers of cultural institutions, etc. public speaking performance and will also implement it.
- Learning outcomes
- Student after completing the subject:
- understands theoretically and practically the issues of artistic performance and public speaking;
- can select, prepare and present an artistic text or prepare and present another type of public speaking performance;
- is able to describe and analyze the assigned public speech - Syllabus
- 1. Stylistics of speech. Public and private. Official and unofficial.
- 2. The specifics of public speaking - from presentations, through opening remarks at cultural events, to solo artistic performances. Communication model.
- 3. Dramaturgy – selection of an artistic text (prose or poetry) for one's own presentation / concretization of a cultural event, for which an accompanying speech is to be prepared. Context of contemporary literature / contemporary cultural events.
- 4. Text analysis – methods of text analysis for the needs of artistic presentation (subjective point of view as well as the point of view of literary science) / examination of the broad cultural context of the accompanying word being prepared.
- 5. Search for interpretation keys. Finding suitable language resources. Finding your own authentic speaking style. Basics of voice training (voice and speech education).
- 6. Analysis of selected recordings of public speeches and samples of selected solo performers of poetry or prose. Positive and negative role models.
- 7. First interpretation attempts of selected texts / first formulation of fixed parts of the prepared speech. Work with feedback from the teacher.
- 8. Self-reflection and reinterpretation of already explained text / Self-reflection and new formulation of prepared parts of texts.
- 9. Interpretation in front of a known audience, including processing of audience feedback / Rehearsal in front of a known audience, including processing of feedback.
- 10. Finalization of own prepared speech, incorporation of comments. Reasoned variations, new interpretations, new contexts (opposite contexts).
- 11. Public performance in front of an audience with a performance of poetry or prose / as part of the moderation of a cultural program.
- 12. Self-reflection of own performance; reflection of communication with the audience; evaluation of one's own preparation with regard to all the steps preceding the performance itself.

- Participation in seminars. Active approach when completing tasks, in discussions and during joint practical activities and exercises. Study of recommended primary and secondary literature Good orientation in the basic areas of Czech and world literature (basic works, personalities, trends, periods), basic orientation in Czech and world history and cultural contexts. Separate, reasoned selection of a suitable literary material for presentation, its analysis, preparation of interpretation and public performance (or preparation of the concept of an accompanying speech for a given cultural event, processing of an accompanying speech and realization in public). Written reflection of one's own performance and all preparation steps.
