- Course objectives
- The aim of the cycle of lectures in combination with exercises is teaching about the basic archaeological and historical literature focused on cultural and social history of Middle Ages and Early Modern Period. There is a special emphasis on postmodern historiographical and archaeological production. During the part of exercises students should develop the knowledge of heuristic work with secondary literature and they should get the knowledge of the issue of social and cultural changes of the society in Middle Ages and Early Modern Period.

- 1/ Introductory lesson (basic literature and articles, citation norm, time in history)
2/ Development of social history. From German School to French School "Annales"
3/ Postmodern historiographical and archaeological production in present times
4/ Changes of the rural settlement in Middle Ages (process of colonization, emphyteutical law, development of the house, structure of settlement)
5/ Changes of the village between Middle Ages and Early Modern Period (village in relation to the city, economical situation of central Europe area)
6/ Origins of the city in Middle Ages and development of urban society
7/ The medieval city as an enclosed organism and political-economical centre in countryside
8/ Development of the military elites in Middle Ages (king, knights and court)
9/ Aristocracy between Middle Ages and Early Modern Period (rivalry of aristocracy and urban society, aristocrat as civil servant or military leader)
10/ Origins of the church and its influence to the medieval society
11/ Changes of the Church and its influence to the society in Early Modern Period
12/ Crises of the society in Early Modern Period (time of revolution)
