Course objectives
The aim of the course is to introduce students to the problems of archeology of medieval Europe with an emphasis on the early Middle Ages (5.-10./12. Century.). At the outset will be familiar with the basic characteristic of the period, with technical terminology, and with the history of exploration. Following general outline of the development of natural conditions and basic historical development of Europe, including disability interaction determinants of cultural influences (the ancient traditions of oriental and barbarian influences, the role of Christianity and the papacy, economic and climatic conditions, etc.), ie. Basic cultural, social, economic, ethnic , religious and political aspects reflected in the archaeological record of early medieval Europe. Students will be familiarized with the different kinds and types of sites (settlements, exploitation and production sites, burial sites and religious sites, communication lines, etc.) and their parts (ie. Dwellings, farm buildings, religious buildings, fortifications) with disabilities, their most important urban aspects. Seminars will consist of working with the basic literature in the active work of students (research, reports, essays) aimed at understanding the development of settlement and material culture in the European region and season.
