Course objectives
The reason for the protection of archaeological monuments is primarily their unrepeatability and irreplaceability as documents of the past, but also as a basic information source for archeology as a scientific field. The task of the course is therefore familiarization listeners with the basic topics of the complicated area of ​​archaeological preservation, or management archaeological heritage. The goal is for graduates to be able to orient themselves in the basic features of social, legislative and methodical approach to archaeological heritage in the world, in the corresponding national and European legislation, as well as in the organization of archaeological preservation in the Czech Republic. Course graduates will be in compliance with applicable legislation familiar with the basic phases of the preparation organization (creating research, choosing the optimal procedure, preparing the budget, drawing up an agreement to carry out archaeological research, setting up a work team) and organizing the actual implementation rescue archaeological research (organization of own excavation work, management of field documentation, administration of research, laboratory treatment and record of findings, processing of field documentation, evaluation of research and drafting the findings report) as well as the basic principles for working within this process, including instructional demonstrations on real and model practical examples within the seminar.

  • 1. Introduction and terminology (research and rescue research, management of archaeological heritage). 2. Archaeological monument care abroad. 3. Development of archaeological monument care in the Czech lands. 4. The Malta Convention and the Czech legislation on archaeological monument care. 5. Archaeological institutions in the Czech Republic 6. Management in salvage archaeology. 7. Sources of information in the preparation of rescue archaeological research. 8. Negotiations with the builder and other affected entities. 9. Rescue Archaeological Research Project, research team. 10. Preparation of the rescue archaeological research budget. 11. Agreement on carrying out rescue archaeological research. 12. Control mechanisms, work safety and related regulations. 13. Archeology and the interests of contemporary society.
