Course objectives
The course is intended for first-year students of Mgr. studies. It is conceived as an overview. In addition to factual information about the main developmental movements within Czech poetry of the last thirty years, students will also get acquainted with specific volumes of selected authors. It is also assumed that they will be continuously prepared for individual topics in the form of reading specific texts.
Learning outcomes
After graduation, students will be able to describe the basic development trends of contemporary poetry. They will be familiar with the individual generational layers of contemporary poetry. At the same time, they will gain the ability to interpret and evaluate contemporary poetry.
Syllabus
  • 1. What exactly is contemporary poetry? (Dating, concepts, influence of external circumstances.) 2. Transformation of functions of literature, awards, magazines and literary criticism. 3.Literary life: Prices, awards and functions of the book market. 4.Generational class of contemporary Czech poetry Ia: the oldest generation. 5.Generational class of contemporary Czech poetry Ib: generation of the 60's. 6.Generational class of contemporary Czech poetry II: "solitaires". 7.Generational class of contemporary Czech poetry III: underground, turn generation. 8.Generational class of contemporary Czech poetry IV: Generation of the 90s of the 20th century. 9.Generational class of contemporary Czech poetry V: The youngest generation of poetry. 10. The oldest literary generation in the new millennium. 11. Generation of the 1960s. and underground in the new millennium. 12. Generation of the 1990s, young and youngest in the new millennium. 13. Changes in literary life, awards, author readings, etc.
