Course Enrolment Limitations
The course is also offered to the students of the fields other than those the course is directly associated with.
fields of study / plans the course is directly associated with
Course objectives
The subject acquaints students with advanced parts of quantum field theory.
Learning outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, the student will:
- mathematically formulate problems of interacting physical fields,
- construct Feyman diagrams for specific particle interactions (scattering, decay)
Syllabus
  • Main topics of the subject:
    • Interacting fields theory. Symmetry and interaction lagrangians; electromagnetic interactions of scalar and spinor fields, pion-nucleon interaction.
    • Local calibration invariance. Dirac picture, Moller operator.
    • S and T operators, their matrix elements (normalisation to finite volume and continous momentum spectra).
    • Transfer amplitude, rate of decay, effective cross-section.
    • Perturbation expansion of S operator, invariant perturbation metod.
    • Wick theorem.
    • Spinor electrodynamics. Compton, Moller and Bhabha scattering amplitudes, their derivation from invariant perturbation method.
    • Feynman diagrams and rules. Process with charged leptons of many kinds.
    • Scalar electrodynamics. Electtron-positron anihilation into two (pointlike) pions. Feynman rules.
    • Weak interactions in lepton sector. Neutrina, calibration bozons, interaction Lagrangian.
