Course objectives
Students are introduced to properties of dense matter - matter that is typical for cores of compact stars
Learning outcomes
Student will understand behaviour of dense matter
Syllabus
  • The course is organised as follows
  • Equation of state, thermodynamical and statistical description of dense matter
  • Fermions at high densities
  • Boson at high densities
  • Description of matter at low temperature limit
  • Influence of temperature on equation of state of neutron star matter
  • Superfluidity - basic description and examples
  • Superfluidity and superconductivity at cores of neutron stars
  • Phase transitions in dense nuclear matter
  • Equation of state and matter of supernovae
  • Equations of state of exotic matter (hyperons, quark matter)
  • Influence of magnetic fields on equations of state
  • Experimental tests of equations of state I - high and medium temperatures (LHC, RHIC, CBM ...)
  • Experimental tests of equations of state II - low temperature limit
