Course objectives
The subject acquaints students with quantum chromodynamics fundamentals, present theory of strong interactions and prepares them for theoretical or phenomenological research in particle physics.
Learning outcomes
Upon successful graduation from the subject, a student will be able :
- understand fundamentals of quantum chromodynamics,
- formulate and solve fundamental problems in quantum chromodynamics
Syllabus
  • The Main topics of the subject:
  • - Experimental evidence of quarks, gluons and colors,
  • - Lie groups and algebras,
  • - Symmetry and interactions,
  • - Global and local abelian gauge invariance,
  • - Global and local non-abelian gauge invariance,
  • - Quarks, flavor families, color SU(3) group, gluons,
  • - The Lagrangian of Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD),
  • - Feynman rules for vertexes and propagators in QCD,
  • - Tree diagrams and heavy scattering process,
  • - Single-loop corrections in QCD,
  • - Vertex function, quark proper energy,
  • - Renormalization, fundamental ideas and techniques,
  • - Running coupling constant,
  • - Asymptotic freedom,
  • - Non-perturbative metods in QCD,
  • - Quark confinement.
