Basic knowledge of electricity and magnetism at the high school level - Course Enrolment Limitations
- The course is also offered to the students of the fields other than those the course is directly associated with.
- fields of study / plans the course is directly associated with
- Physical Diagnostic Methods (programme FU, APFYZB)
- Environmental Monitoring (programme FU, APFYZB)
- Course objectives
- Students will form their own practical measurement familiar with the basic measurements in electricity and magnetism.
- Learning outcomes
- The student will be able to explain the nature of the investigated physical phenomenon, perform an experiment with available laboratory aids, evaluate the measurement results and determine the measurement error.
- Syllabus
- 1. Measurement of basic quantities. Measurement of voltage, current, resistance, power and frequency; verification of Kirchhoff's laws.
2. Calibration of the measuring device with a laboratory instrument; determining the internal resistance of the meter; changing the range of the ammeter a voltmeter.
3. Measurement of resistance by deflection methods.
4. Bridge circuits.
5. The principle of voltage and current compensation and its use for determining the electromotive voltage of the primary cell.
6. Electric current work; verification of the relationship between quantities describing direct current and alternating current (electric current) calorimeter); graduation of an ammeter with a coulombmeter to hydrogen.
7. Experimental investigation of electric field.
8. Behavior of some basic passive elements in an AC circuit.
9. Study of capacitor; capacitor capacity determination by direct and RLC bridge method; charge determination accumulated by a capacitor; a change in the voltage across the capacitor when its geometric dimensions change; connection capacitors.
10. Study of properties of magnetic fields; magnetic field interactions.
11. Determination of Planck's constant from photoelectric effect.
12. Measurement of Hall constant of semiconductor.
- 1. Measurement of basic quantities. Measurement of voltage, current, resistance, power and frequency; verification of Kirchhoff's laws.
