Course objectives
The aim of the subject is to clarify the role and position of Social pathology, or Social deviation in the system of sociological and other social sciences. Another goal is to become familiar with traditional and modern theories of social pathology / deviation (their development and current conception). The mentioned issues will also be demonstrated on the works of Czech and foreign sociologists.
Syllabus
  • Interpretation of basic concepts - social pathology, social deviation, social norms, anomie, eufunction and dysfunction.
    Traditional views on deviant behaviour; types and classification of social deviations; functions of social deviations in society.
    Normative concept of social deviation - conformist and deviant conduct, types of standards, social control and sanctions, the theory of consensus, the theory of conflict.
    Reactive concept of social deviation - the theory of a societal response, secondary deviations, deviant career.
    Biological, psychological and sociological theories of deviant behaviour - the most important representatives and approaches.
