Course objectives
The aim of the professional practice is to verify the theoretical knowledge acquired during the course of study, practice practical skills, familiarize yourself with the services provided and develop professional competences enabling successful employment of the graduate on the labor market. Professional practice III is intended to give students experience with social relations and ways of working that exist or are applied in organizations where professional practice is carried out. Another goal of the internship is to stimulate the effort to reflect on this experience, to enable students to practically try out the methods they have become familiar with through theoretical studies, to provide opportunities for students to confront their theoretical ideas about future work with their practical implementation, to develop students' social sensitivity and teach them to work in a reflective way. It is important for the student to gain experience in regular work with the client in the field, his living conditions, needs, verify the theoretical starting points and acquire basic professional skills. In the selected institution, the student will orientate himself in its mission, composition of the client group, organizational structure, staffing, links to other institutions and the local community, relevant legislation. During practice, attention will also be paid to teamwork, including cooperation with other organizations and institutions, client families, doctors, psychologists. Professional practice III is implemented in the form of an individual, continuous internship (in the scope of 8 hours/1 day, 5 weeks, 200 hours in total) in a selected facility of the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Justice.
Learning outcomes
Students will be able to: - characterize their chosen practice facility - list the main legislative documents governing the establishment - characterise the environment and its importance in working with the target group in the facility - make preparations for activities with a client of the facility - carry out direct activities with a client under mentoring - implement and analyse the monitoring of the social worker's activities in the facility - self-evaluation of their activities within the practice Come in: - is able to apply knowledge of pedagogy in practice, uses pedagogical methods at work - knowledge of basic methods, forms and techniques (of education and training) - is able to think about current problems, analyse the ongoing process of working with a client, monitor the development of his/her problem or difficulty, think about the possibilities of improving the situation with regard to the quality of life of this individual - can apply knowledge not only from pedagogical disciplines, but also from psychology, social pathology and special pedagogy - respects the age, physical condition and disposition of individuals, including the specifics of communication, when working with clients - is able to recognise problem situations not only in the work of the supervisor but also in his/her own supervised input, - can process the activity and prepare for the day, - is responsible in his/her approach to the client, reliable in attendance and completion of assigned tasks, cooperative with facility staff, - has knowledge of self-knowledge and self-awareness, is aware of his/her strengths and weaknesses and can reflect on them, recognises his/her strengths and weaknesses in his/her teaching practice - has the ability to give and receive feedback within the team.
Syllabus
  • Clarification of the student's position during the internship. Definition of the mission and goals of the workplace, target group of clients. Identification of the founder of the facility. Inclusion in the network of social services, education, etc., typology of services provided according to the law. Familiarisation with the organisational and personnel structure of the facility. Job descriptions of individual workers, identification of the possibility of working in a team, possibilities of supervision (internal, external). Familiarisation with the legislation and working regulations governing the workers in the organisation. Familiarisation with the specifics of the target group and definition of the typology of problems of the clients of the facility.
