The course Educational Care for Seniors is designed for students with an English language proficiency of at least B1 who wish to expand their professional vocabulary, communication skills, and critical thinking abilities in the context of ageing and senior care. No prior experience working with seniors is required; however, openness to discussion, a creative approach, and willingness to engage in practical activities are expected.

Course objectives
The aim of the course is to develop students’ language competencies through specialised topics in gerontology, social work, and special education, focusing on the physical, psychological, and social aspects of ageing. Students will explore healthy ageing, educational and leisure activities for seniors, wellbeing in later life, media literacy and the prevention of manipulation and misinformation. Additional topics include inclusive care for LGBTQ seniors, elder abuse and possible interventions, addictive behaviours among older adults, homelessness in old age, and understanding trauma.
Learning outcomes
Upon completing the course, students will be able to actively use an extended vocabulary in the field of senior care and engage in English-language discussions on current issues related to ageing. They will be capable of analysing and critically evaluating academic texts and media content, proposing educational or supportive activities for seniors, and presenting them in English. They will also acquire skills in teamwork, argumentation, and public presentation.

Teaching methods
eaching will follow a task-based learning approach, where students complete specific practical assignments, and a project-based learning approach for more extensive team projects. Role-play and simulation will be used to practise real-life scenarios, while critical reading and listening activities will focus on working with authentic materials. The flipped classroom method will be applied, with students studying theoretical foundations beforehand so that class time can be devoted to active application. Collaborative learning will foster idea-sharing and peer-to-peer learning.
Assessment methods
Assessment will be based on a final creative project, completed individually or in pairs, with practical application in the field of senior care. The project will be accompanied by a brief written outline describing the target group, objective, and method of implementation, and will be presented in English. Active participation, completion of ongoing tasks, and a minimum of 80% attendance will also contribute to the final grade.
