Course objectives
The aim of the course is to prepare students for dealing with people from a different cultural background. The aim of the course is to provide students with basic knowledge about the influence of socio-cultural environment on the development of human personality and behavior. The course is to contribute to the development and cultivation of multicultural competencies of students and prepare them for effective dealing with people with different cultural backgrounds. Exercises are of self-reflective character with a focus on identifying of own perception of stereotypes, communication barriers, rigid thought patterns in order to develop tolerance to differences among people. The course builds and develops students' experience, gained during studying of the Bachelor's degree programme.

  • 1st The concept of intercultural competence
    2nd The perception of socio-cultural differences, stereotypes, socio-cultural prejudices and personal preferences
    3rd Attitudes to minority population and attitudes to foreigners
    4th Reflection of own perceptual stereotypes
    5th Fear of social and cultural diversity and its implications for personal behavior
    6th Personal experiences and their impact on the evaluation of individuals and groups, the influence of education
    7th Influence of social groups and reference groups to education of other individuals and groups
    8th The effects of mass communication and communication media on the evaluation of different socio-cultural groups and forming relations with them
    9th Interaction and communication with members of different socio-cultural groups
    10th Contemporary trends of developing intercultural competences

During the seminar, each of students will present personal experiences with multicultural interactions and will evaluate own progress with respect to the use of multicultural competencies.
