Course objectives
The goal of Professional Practice II is to provide students space for familiarization with the specific problems of practical work in the facility, to gain and practice the skill of combining theoretical knowledge with practical problem-solving abilities and applying them to the problems of certain groups of clients. The student will be able to navigate the organizational structure and operation of the facility, search for sources of cooperation in the wider area of professional practice, to identify clients' needs, their welfare, etc. Professional Practice II will be implemented by an individual, continuous placements (ranging from 6 hours / 1 day, 72 hours per semester) in selected Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, Ministry of Health and Ministry of Justice. It will be implemented in wards for the elderly and the handicapped people, departments and social protection of children, social service facilities with a focus on family and child, in the facilities for the handicapped and other facilities of social services (health, education, welfare, etc.) . The challenge here is to obtain basic information affecting the mission of the institution, its history, the composition of client groups, organizational structure, staffing, links to other facilities and the local community, relevant legislation and others. The key information is considered to be that related to the exercise of professional activities of students and other personnel in direct relation to work with clients . The aim of the practice is to know in detail the routine work with clients in the field, gain experience with welfare clients, verify the theoretical basis and to acquire basic professional skills.
Syllabus
  • The structure of practice implementation :
    1st Clarifying the position of a student in the course of practice.
    2nd Defining the mission and goals of the workplace, the target group of clients. Identification of the founder of the facility. Inclusion in social services, education, etc.
    3rd Introduction to organizational and personnel structure of the facility. Job descriptions of staff, identification of possible work in a team, the possibility of supervision (internal and external).
    4th Introduction to labor legislation and regulations governing staff in the organization.
    5th Defining typology of client problems withinthe facility.
    6th Method of data management for clients, client's personal protection against possible misuse of personal information.
    7th Methods and approaches to clients used in the workplace. Students are observed working with a client in the workplace.
    8th Students are observed working with a client in the workplace.
    9th Individual work with clients under professional management staff.
    Overall assessment of the practice in terms of the use of theoretical knowledge and its application in practice.
    Seminar
    Professional Practice consists of practical training and seminars. In the seminar, students will be able to reflect on their experience of the individual facilities. It will include mentoring students in preparation for working directly with clients.
    The seminar will take place in a group led by a qualified supervisor experience.
    It aims to extend the theoretical knowledge and practical experience, particularly in the field of prevention of socially pathological phenomena in various types of facilities. The seminar will be used to analyze non-standard situations and finding an appropriate procedure for their solution.

    1st Introduction to the practice.
    2nd Characteristics of the facilities and how they compare in terms of job descriptions and target groups.
    3rd Methodology gaming activities and activities within the practice.
    4th Possibilities of prevention of socially pathological phenomena in various types of facilities.
    5th Continuous preparation activities in practice (time allocation, structure and content of training, work with the group).
    6th Possibilities of emergency response.
    7th Analysis and evaluation of implemented practices.
