- Course objectives
- The aim of the course is to get acquainted with the problems of the elderly population in the context of social pathology (understanding the content and essence of social pathology in general, creating a basic terminological orientation, acquaintance with traditional and modern theories of social pathology, but above all the application of the above to the elderly age). Introduction to selected theoretical aspects of social pathology, or social deviations and social pathological phenomena present in the elderly in contemporary society (e.g. addictive behaviour, suicidality, criminality, etc.).
- Learning outcomes
- Professional knowledge:The student will acquire theoretical knowledge in the field of current scientific approach to the problem of social pathology, or social deviations, will be able to orientate in professional terminology, will be able to define the theoretical basis of etiology of social pathology in the elderly and seniors. The course builds primarily (but not exclusively) on knowledge from the field of sociology. Professional skills. The student will be able to orient himself/herself in the problems of social deviations in general, but also in the problems of social aspects of the emergence of deviant behaviour in the everyday life of seniors. General competencies:The student will be able to explain the biological, psychological and social aspects of the emergence of negative behaviour in the life of seniorswith consequences for the individual and the family of the senior; the student will be able to take a qualified position not only towards the senior producing pathological behaviour, but also towards the senior as a victim of crime. The student is expected to be equipped with the theoretical knowledge and the necessary application skills.

- 1. Interpretation of basic concepts - social pathology, social deviance, other related concepts, anomie (adaptive ways) 2. Elements of social deviance (social norm, social values, social institutions, personality of the actor, social relations) 3. Types and functions of social deviance in society 4. Biological, psychological and sociological theories of deviant behaviour - the most important representatives and approaches 5. Risks of the elderly population. The problem senior; problem behaviour (areas and causes) 6. Addictions to addictive substances - alcoholism, drug addictions, etc. 7. Non-substance addictions - gambling, oniomania, show addiction, hoarding 8. Seniors and sectarian groups 9. Suicidality of the elderly 10. Issues of aggression and violence in and against seniors (EN syndrome) 11. Eating disorders in the elderly population 12. Media and its influence on the elderly 13. Poverty and homelessness among the elderly
