Course objectives
Dying and death is still a taboo subject nowadays.The course objective is to get not only the ability to think and speak about the subject, but to be able to provide information from different disciplines that are related to dying, accompanying the dying and mourning.
Learning outcomes
Students will receive an orientation regarding death, dying and hospice care. They will gain knowledge of the essential principles in accompanying the dying and in bereavement counseling. They will be able to provide basic crisis intervention.

  • 1. Death and dying as a problem of modern society.Fear of death.
  • 2. Dying and death in  historical perspective.
  • 3. Palliative care.
  • 4. Hospice care,
  • 5. Myths about dying and palliative care.
  • 6. Children and death.
  • 7. Accompanying the dying.
  • 8. Needs of the dying, needs of loved ones, psychological coping with death.
  • 9. Issues of euthanasia. Ethical dilemmas.
  • 10. Mourning rituals.
  • 11. Grieving - coping with the loss of a loved one, accompanying the bereaved.
