Course objectives
Students are introduced to basic knowledge about the forms and goals of supervision, including basic supervision approaches and ethical principles of supervision. Attention is also paid to the process of preparation, negotiation and content of the supervision contract. The subject emphasizes group supervision work, team supervision, including the application of Balint's groups in supervision. The purpose of the subject is to ensure a functional connection of the theoretical base with the practical application of the acquired knowledge.
Learning outcomes
The student will be able to: •Explain the significance of supervision in helping professions, •Clarify the goals, functions, and forms of supervision, •Describe the specifics of group and team supervision.
Syllabus
  • 1.Supervision in the Czech Republic: Forms and goals of supervision. Supervisory approaches. Opportunities, boundaries, benefits, and risks of supervision. 2.Ethical principles of supervision. 3.Supervisory contract: The process of preparing a contract, negotiation, and the content of the contract. 4.Group work in supervision: Advantages and disadvantages of group work in supervision. Types and forms of supervisory groups. The role of the supervisor in group work. 5.Supervisor and supervisee competencies and their relationship: Structure and process in group supervision. 6.Team supervision: Organization and team preparation for supervision. Initial contact, outreach, or commissioning. Negotiations with the supervision client. The first meeting with the supervisees and contracting with the team. The actual supervision process. 7.Balint groups: Balint groups and supervision. Structure of Balint groups. 8.Selected techniques in supervisory work: Situation modeling, role-playing, drawing maps, using video recordings, and focusing.
