The course is offered to students of any study field.
Course objectives
The content of the course is conceived in order to introduce basic concepts in theory of communication. It leads to evaluation of variables which influence communication. The student should know main principles of communication. The levels of communication will be distinguished, the verbal and nonverbal communication will be characterized. All topics will be aimed at perception of communication of others, feedback control of own communication and body language control. The student will learn dialogue leading. The conflict situations and possibilities of their solution will be focused on as well. The possibilities of negotiation will be mentioned, as well as speech preparation, possibilities of persuasion and meeting leading. The issue of communication from the point of view of minority member will be included. The common effort should lead to more effective use of communication skills with the aim to manage the principles of healthy communication. The aim is to develop skills to communicate in order that our communication meets the desired effect in concrete communication context. The topics derived from current issues in society or students' interests are used for communication. The course is intended for Department of Public administration and regional policy students only.
Syllabus
  • 1. Basic concepts - areas of communication, models of communication, communication noises, competences
    2. Modality of communication context - physical, cultural, psychological
    3. Means of communication. Content, experience and relational level of communication
    4. Nonverbal communication - face-play, haptic communication, proxemics, posturology, kinesics
    5. Nonverbal communication - paralinguistic, communication via objects
    6. Verbal communication - perception, listening, verbal message. Dialogue leading
    7. Preparation of public speech and its performance. Meeting leading
    8. Conflict - understanding of conflict, approach to conflicts. Means of conflict solving
    9. Negotiation and the role of mediator. Agreement. Effective argumentation. Persuasion.
    10. Communication models - theory of plays, communication types according to V. Satir, transaction analysis, system approach, neurolinguistic programming, assertiveness
    11. Basic principles of healthy communication. Functional and non-functional communication, communication vices. Communication with minority members. Communication errors. Disorders in interpersonal communication. Team cooperation.
