Course objectives
The course aims to provide students with a structured insight into the fundamentals of pedagogy and andragogy, key concepts and aspects of the theory of education, definition of its subject, functions, nature and objectives, principles, forms, methods and means which they should understand. The objective of the course is to gain understanding of the developmental stages of both disciplines as a basis for studying gerontagogic disciplines.
Learning outcomes
Professional knowledge: Students acquire and demonstrate knowledge of pedagogy and andragogy as scientific disciplines and of basic theories within its genesis. They can characterize the subject, objectives, content, forms, methods, principles and means of the theory of education, the essential features of alternative schools and movements, define the key competences of the subject and object of education, as well as characterize the system of pedagogical and andragogical disciplines.

Professional skills: Students are well versed in basic educational issues embedded in the concept of lifelong learning - from primary education in the family, through pre-school and school education over to adult education and education of the elderly. They are familiar with the relevant field literature, can locate, interpret and apply the gained information in practice.

General qualification: Students can perceive the issues of human development comprehensively in the context of basic, borderline and applied educational disciplines. They they are able to not only use and apply their knowledge and skills in practice, but also to independently develop and seek new knowledge, approaches and methods in relation to the needs of life and work in the field, to react flexibly to current circumstances, choose and adopt the right decisions, assuming responsibility for them as well.

  • 2. Genesis of pedagogy and andragogy in the concept of LLL; antiquity, the Middle Ages, modern times up to contemporary concepts in the world and in the Czech Republic
  • 3. The subject of pedagogy and andragogy; methodological anchorage
  • 4. Basic knowledge in the theory of learning; philosophical navigation; learning theory; the concept of paradigm in pedagogy and andragogy
  • 5. The system of pedagogical and andragogical disciplines - basic, borderline, applied; alternative schools and movements; auxiliary sciences of pedagogy and andragogy: philosophical, psychological, sociological
  • 6. Andragogical and pedagogical goals; aims of upbringing
  • 7. Contents of education in pedagogy and andragogy: lesson plans and frameworks, the curriculum, Educational Programme Framework (RVP) and School Educational Programme (ŠVP)
  • 8. Content of education in pedagogy and andragogy: projects; elements of education in a democratic society

The course can also be completed outside the examination period.
Teacher's information
Part-time students elaborate and submit assignments based on the study material to the instructor continually, for which they receive credit as a condition of admission to course exam.

Lectures, consultations - students have the possibility to consult via e-mail or upon agreement with the instructor in person. The course has an LMS Moodle course which is used for electronic communication with the instructor and among students
