Course objectives
The course objective is to provide basic orientation in the terminology, history and educational processes of social work with the elderly and introduce students to the issues of ageing from the perspective of social services, the issue of intergenerational cohabitation and of social services planning. Outline the problems of the target group of seniors and specific aspects of working with them.
Learning outcomes
Professional Knowledge: Students acquire and demonstrate knowledge of basic issues in social work with the elderly. In the field of social work with senior citizens, they will be able to apply selected methods of social work to work with this client group.

Professional Skills: Students are well versed in legislation governing the provision of social services in the Czech Republic and in the typology of social services. Students are also provided with knowledge of the paradigms of social work and individual approaches in social work with the elderly. Students are able to analyze the particular social situation of clients and apply the most appropriate method of social work which would lead to resolving or mitigating adverse social situation of clients. They also understand the contemporary dilemmas of social work with the elderly and are familiar with the high demands that are placed on the personality of social worker working with seniors.

General qualification: Students can identify the specifics of the target group of seniors and practically apply theoretical approaches and methods of social work in specific situations of persons. The methods of the course will encourage the development of analytical, synthetic and diagnostic thinking, creativity and the students' ability to make decisions independently and responsibly.
