Course objectives
The aim of the course Communication with seniors II. is to deepen students' knowledge and communication skills in the field of social communication with seniors. The lecture series deals with group communication with seniors and the development of their communication skills, prevention and resolution of conflicts with seniors, communication strategies with demanding types of seniors, the specifics of communication with seniors in palliative care and communication with relatives of seniors. Theoretical knowledge will be immediately put into practice.
Learning outcomes
Field knowledge: The student knows and understands the processes of group dynamics for group work with seniors, knows the concepts for the development of their communication skills, knows the causes and mechanisms of conflict resolution, knows the demanding types of seniors and appropriate communication strategies. The student knows the specifics of communication and desirable communication procedures in the field of palliative care.
Field skills: The student is able to effectively use effective means of communication in individual and group work with seniors, takes into account the specifics of the target group and develops the communication skills of seniors to an appropriate extent. He is able to solve the causes of conflicts and prevent conflicts, or solve ongoing ones, and thus minimize the negative impact on the senior and his surroundings. The student is able to communicate with demanding types of seniors and chooses effective communication strategies. The student is able to choose appropriate communication strategies with a senior in palliative care and is able to communicate with relatives of the senior. The student applies the acquired information and skills in practice. He is able to connect the acquired knowledge with the needs and requirements in his practice.
General competences: The student is able to communicate with different types of seniors, including demanding types and choose the appropriate strategy for dealing in conflict situations. The student is qualified to work with an individual and a group of seniors, is able to communicate with a senior and his relatives in palliative care.

  • 7. Specifics of communication with seniors with dementia, mental or mental illness and under the influence of addictive substances.
  • 8. Specifics of communication with demanding types of seniors (aggressive, depressed and anxious type).
  • 9. Specifics of communication with demanding types of seniors (neurotic, narcissistic and pedantic type).
  • 10. Specifics of communication with demanding types of seniors (inaccessible and histrionic type).
  • 11. Specifics of communication in palliative care.
  • 12. Social work with the dying.
  • 13. Specifics of communication with survivors.
