Course objectives
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the theory and practice of game-based activities as a tool for the prevention of socially pathological phenomena. The course focuses on the development of social skills, teamwork, experiential pedagogy, and increasing awareness of the positive effects of games on social interaction.
Learning outcomes
Explain the basic principles of using game-based activities in the prevention of risky behaviour. Provide examples of suitable games for different target groups with respect to age and specific needs. Prepare and lead a game-based activity, including clear explanation of rules and motivating participants. Apply various ways of adapting games to different group conditions. Reflect on the process and outcomes of a game-based activity, identifying its benefits and potential risks. Demonstrate skills in teamwork, communication, empathy, and other soft skills through participation in game-based activities.
Syllabus
Introduction to game-based activities (definition and significance, history, typology) Games in the context of pedagogy and psychology (social theories of games, psychological aspects of games, impact on personal development, experiential education) Preparation, implementation, reflection, and ethics of game-based activities How to lead a game-based activity – explaining rules, motivating participants, adapting the game to the group’s needs Selecting suitable games for different target groups (age, specific needs – e.g., ADHD, intellectual disability, above-average IQ) Game-based activities and prevention Intrapersonal games (self-awareness, emotional development) Interpersonal games (group relationships, group dynamics, conflict resolution through games) Games for developing soft skills – communication, empathy, frustration tolerance, cooperation, and other social skills Working with games in the online environment and story-based games
