Course objectives
One-semester course is devoted to civic culture of the era from the late 18th century to the interwar period. Emphasis is put on the most important media of the period: periodical press, literature, theater, architecture, museum, monument and new media (photography, film). The lectures deal with the dynamics of culture, the shift of their main carriers from the old elite (rulers, aristocracy and high clergy), towards the dominance of middle class and in the end, to radical questioning of the universality of bourgeois values ??and in the context of the gradual emancipation of the lower and lower middle strata of society in the late 19th and early 20th century.
Syllabus
