- Course objectives
- This semestral course is dedicated to the culture since the end of the eighteenth century till the interwar period. The accents lies on the most important media, that enable us to percieve the period: press, literature, theatre, architecture, museum, monument and new media (photography, film etc.). This lecture cource captures the dynamics of culture, whose main cultivators were the ancient elites (monarch, aristocracy, high clergy), who were later overwhelmed by new elites (middle classes) that lost their dominancy after 1918 neverthless due to the emergence of mass culture a the emancipation of lower classes around 1900. ower middle strata of society in the late 19th and early 20th century.
