- Course objectives
- Practical Language Skills 7 aims at producing presentations with a follow-up discussion. Techniques of argument, questioning and motivation are acquired. Furthermore, it is learnt how to deal with conflict situations. At least 20 minutes of each lesson are used for giving feedback.
- Syllabus
- The aim of this course is how to produce written and oral texts which render your own opinion on a contemporary issue in a concise and effective manner. In general, essays wich may use the software "Power Point" as a medium are presented in class, and regular written homework is to sum up the discussion in class. The subjects of yout essays may be chosen freely or follow the teacher's advice. In this way it should be practised how different lines of arguments may be summarized in a precise and clear way of course, not only of your own lines of arguments but of those developed and presented by your fellow students in class as well. Efficient discussions presuppose exact listening, especially in a foreign language. Grades depend on the quality of your presentation, its elaboration in writing, and written homework.
Oral and literal abilities are to be trained on an equal base, e.g. free speech (eventually based on written notes), communicating with partners in a discussion, how to moderate and direct a debate in the foreign language, debating and opinion-oriented genres of public texts, techniques of developing arguments in favor of or against a particular point of view, a planned structure of clearly written texts, forms of explixit debate and of clear and convincing summarizing.
You will enjoy large freedom when choosing your subject. It is recommended to choose your subject from one of the fields 1 through 4 below. The subtitles are mere suggestions.
