Course objectives
The aim of the seminar is to acquaint students with the methods, principles and goals of the so-called contemporary archeology (Contemporary archeology). This sub-field of archeology, which has been developing in the Czech Republic since the beginning of the current century, brings, in addition to the knowledge about the investigated objects, new perspectives on questions of archaeological methods as such.

  • 1. History of archaeological research of the recent past. 2. Methodological foundations of archaeological research of the recent past. 3. The Second World War in the light of archaeological sources I. 4. The Second World War in the light of archaeological sources II. 5. The Second World War in the light of archaeological sources III. 6. Lety u Písek, the story of one concentration camp. 7. Current and recently extinct cemeteries and the possibilities of applying archaeological methods in their investigation. 8. Archaeological investigation of the communist era here and abroad (labor camps, investigation of the graves of victims of political repression, the Iron Curtain – disappearing relics of a closed borderland) I. 9.
