Course objectives
The aim of the course is to teach students how to adequately describe a case in the social sphere and prepare concise case report of an elderly person. Drafting their case reports, students will learn to react flexibly to the personality of a particular client. Students will learn to use adequate written record of case histories presented to discuss the case and make conclusions from individual case reports.
Learning outcomes
Professional knowledge: Students understand the basic terminology and concepts in the field of qualitative research. Students are familiar with case studies in various areas, can work with case histories, to describe a case based on observations and interviews with seniors, as well as by studying the file documentation and other resources. Students understand the connection between the different areas of life of a senior, their personality and current state.

Professional skills: Students can liaise with the senior in order to compile a case studies or case studies. Student can discover connections between different areas of life of a senior and the development of their problem, the student can use professional resources to prepare recommended measures and forecasts of the case. Students are able to work with sensitive information and adhere to professional ethics. Students can apply their gained information and skills in practice. They are able to integrate the acquired knowledge with the needs of the practice.

General qualification: Students are able to carry out qualitative research in areas of work with seniors and compile a case report or case study. Students can analyze existing procedures in the case and propose a suitable strategy for further work with the client. Having completed the course, students are competent to study individual cases of seniors and use their knowledge and skills in further work with the elderly, to better respond to their needs and to assist workers in other professional work.

  • 1. Qualitative examination of the case of an elderly person - a case report, diagnostic methods
  • 2. Key terms, setting goals, types and functions of case reports
  • 3. Formal and content requirements of the case report
  • 4. Mistakes and setbacks in the preparation of a case reports
  • 5. Specifics of case reports of seniors, working with medical history
  • 6. Processing the results of observation and interview
  • 7. Processing additional information from the analysis of documents, questionnaires, etc.
  • 8. Assembling forecasts and proposals for the development of a senior person
  • 9. Autodiagnostics of a worker, analysis of worker-senior interaction
  • 10. Compilation of case studies, fault analysis
  • 11. Case study, demonstrations
