Course objectives
The course objective is to build on the basics of Sign language I course, both in theory and in the practical instruction of sign language, including sign vocabulary building. Students are acquainted with the topic of communication and the needs of people with hearing disabilities in society in partial deepening connections and they attend an excursion to a facility for people with hearing impairments, whether under the MLSA and within the Ministry of Education or under the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports.
Learning outcomes
Professional Knowledge:
- Students are familiar with the problems of people with hearing impairments
- Students know the theory related to the topic of communication systems of people with hearing impairments
- Students understand the basic terminology and legislative measures
- Students are familiar with the differences and needs of people with hearing impairments.

Professional Skills:
- Students can use basic hand positions, within the realm of individual characters from ordinary life
- Students can use the signs of the recommended character lexicon
- Students can use classifiers and specific signs
- Students can reflect on and apply the work of the whole body, associated with visual-motion means of communication.

General qualification:
- Students can communicate independently within a given and further developed character lexicon
- Students can apply a character lexicon in everyday communication, conversation and storytelling.
Syllabus
  • 1. Introduction to the study.
  • 2. -4. Repetition of basic vocabulary.
  • 5. -6. Negative, command and question in the Czech sign language.
  • 7. -8. Numerals, expressions of time (present, future and past).
  • 9. Working with space, incorporation of characters.
  • 10. Specific signs - the most commonly used.
  • 11. Communication with persons with hearing disabilities in practice.
  • 12. Social services for people with hearing impairments- excursions.

Study Materials
The course can also be completed outside the examination period.
Teacher's information
Personal contact during instruction, consultation hours. During their studies, students use the study material to elaborate selected correspondence assignments. At the same time, students demonstrate knowledge of compulsory literature and of the in-person lectures. Students will be able to continuously consult the topics studied individually via e-mail, or in individual or team consultations upon request. The course has an LMS course which is used for electronic communication with the instructor and among students.
