Course objectives
Students will gain basic knowledge of the discipline that deals with the social status, roles and problems of children, their position in social groups, and the importance of childhood within the human life cycle. Particular emphasis is placed on the characteristics of changes in the age and social categories of children and young people, their socialisation and current social problems. Students will demonstrate an understanding of basic terms, theories, categories and processes in the field of sociology of childhood, such as sociology of the child, sociology of youth, sociology of education, social environment, social relations, social communication, etc. Students will also become familiar with the basic methods and techniques of sociological research. Students will be able to systematically and consistently communicate the knowledge they have acquired in the field of the sociology of childhood.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, students will be able to explain the social status and role of children in society; describe the influence of socialisation factors (family, school and leisure organisations); identify current issues affecting children and young people.

  • 2. Demographic characteristics of families, their forms and modalities
  • 3. Family, typology, models, family schemas and communication systems
  • 4. Family influence, styles and models in the context of intergenerational learning
  • 5. Social exclusion, socially excluded families, factors and their causality
  • 6. Syndromes resulting from incorrect family influence
  • 7. Social deviation and social pathology in family schemas
  • 8. Typology of non-family educational environments and their connection with the family
  • 9. Institutional education and institutional care
  • 10. Children at risk and the care system
  • 11. Interethnic families, identity and identification, family affiliation
  • 12. Ethnically diverse children in the Czech school system
