  • Course is organised as follows
  • Late stage of evolution of massive stars, birth of white dwarf and neutron stars
  • Simple description of compact star's matter - degenerate Fermi gas, equation of state of outer layers of neutron stars
  • White dwarfs - simple description, Chandrasekhar limit
  • Dense nuclear matter - neutron drip, beta equilibrium
  • Realistic equations of state of neutron star matter
  • Structure equations of neutron stars - equation of hydrostatic equilibrium, maximum mass, limits on compactness
  • Pulsars
  • Other theoretical models of compact stars - quark stars, strange stars, hybrid stars
  • Rotation of neutron stars
  • Neutron stars in binaries
  • Binary systems of two compact objects, gravitational waves
  • Cooling of white dwarfs and neutron stars
